Four Seasons lands on the Mediterranean sea in the entrance of Marbella, hand in hand with Ricardo Arranz, owner of Villa Padierna Palace, where the hotel chain intends to rehabilitate a space of 400.000 square meters and build a hotel with more than 100.000 square meters built and a residential complex.
The project includes 200 rooms «Grand Luxury» with part of that development in private villas within a residential complex, served with the services of the hotel itself. The offer includes major gastronomic brands and premises for firms of the highest level. The chain is waiting for the opening of their new hotel in Madrid that they foresee for this year, so they can focus afterwards in the opening in Marbella. The investment expected is 650 M. The Firm Anantara will be in charge of running the hotel under the management of Group Minor Hotels, owner of the hotel chains known as NH.
Another chain that set eyes on the Costa del Sol is «W», known for being the owner of the hotel with sail shape in the Barcelona port, that has two ongoing projects in the coast of Málaga. On one side, the resort on the protected sand dunes of the beach Real de Zaragoza in Marbella. With an investment of 300 million, the fund of the Asiatic king of textile, Harry Mohinani, in planning to build, in the middle of this nature site, 200 rooms with all type of luxury and a shopping center by the sea.
Recently, the same Platinium Estates set eyes on Casares for creating a new spot. In this case, 50 million investment for recuperating hotel Doña Julia under the label Park Hyatt. They would be creating 200 rooms with golf course and wellness. We can add the 150 million that the Greek company Ikos will invest in Estepona on their first great hotel planned for Spain. They will try to rescue a historical place such as San Jaime residence for family tourism. Their 411 rooms would be ready in 2020, accompanied by a Michelin star gastronomy and a wide of sports activities in the premises where they work against the clock on the skeleton of the old property.
In spite of the delays, the investment of Club Med in hotel Don Miguel in Marbella is also moving forward. The giant on family tourism on the city of luxury left only the structure with partial demolition, to preserve the idea of what it was in the past.
Now it tries to become an example with a 64.5 million euros investment. They intend creating 502 rooms on this historic building on the slope of the mountain, with two golf courses and 28 conference rooms, in spite of the delays on the works. Recovery of hotel Byblos in Mijas also had delays. Developer Logarma S.L. has destined 60 million euros for adapting the building to the new use and renovating this illustrious place at the feet of Mijas Golf, that had visitors such as Diana de Gales.
A destination continuously growing, the Company Westin already focused in the area a couple of years ago, when they invested 5 million in the refurbishment of La Quinta de Marbella for creating a spot with 170 rooms. Around the same date, the chain Nobu occupied part of Hotel Puente Romano with a «boutique» design. «The arrival of these brands is positive because it wins over clients with a higher profile, that with all these hotels in the area will see the Costa del Sol as an ideal destiny to enjoy their money», explained Callejón.
City projects
Not all are big projects that seek becoming a destiny on themselves. Other brands bet on the city centres. The one with more ongoing projects is Estepona, where the Town Hall has a project for building up to eight «boutique» hotels in the coming years, smaller and with a more customized attention.
Málaga old town is another investment spot. As an example, we can see that Vincci decided to open in Calle Larios with the refurbishment for 10.7 million of an 1821 building. Not far away from there, under nostalgic sorrow, the building called La Mundial was demolished for giving way to the new Hotel de Moneo in Hoyo de Esparteros street. Controversial choice as the design of Architect José Seguí for the Tower in the Málaga Port, where a hotel of 135 floors and 352 suites is planned.
